In Year 1 and Year 2, children must use maths as well as learn it, working out change or reading a clock. This problem solving pack gives your child the sort of questions their class tackles, matched to the National Curriculum. A Year 3 child who still finds these hard can begin with the first book.
Every question sits in a setting your child knows. In the first workbook they add up the cost of sweets bought each day in pence. Later they compare the heights of a giant, a beanstalk, a tree and Jack, subtracting to find the difference in metres. Each printed workbook has full answers for you to check.
The three books climb in small steps. Book 1 stays within 20 and suits a child moving up from Reception, while Book 2 goes to 50 and brings in money, change and telling the time. Book 3 reaches 100, with hundred squares, odd and even numbers and right angles. On one page children add dice rolls on a Snakes and Ladders board.
