Your Reception child learns to hear sounds before naming letters, and these five workbooks follow that same order.
Reception is where reading begins, and it starts with listening rather than letters. This phonics pack follows the Letters and Sounds programme, so practice at home arrives in the order the class is taught. A Year 1 child who never quite settled with digraphs can work back through the middle books at their own pace. A confident pre-school child who is ahead can start at the first book and simply keep going.
The five printed workbooks hold 240 pages of activities between them. Early on your child draws over dotted lines and listens for sounds, as on the musical instruments page. Later they write letters into word frames and blend words like fog and frog. Answers are included in every book.
The order is what makes the set work together. Book 1 covers Phase 1 with the first few letters, and Book 2 adds more of the alphabet plus tricky words. Book 3 and Book 4 take the two halves of Phase 3. Book 5 moves on to Phase 4 and consonant clusters, which is where Reception phonics ends.
