Children sit the KS2 SATs in May, and this Year 3 pack builds towards them one short test at a time. Each test takes ten minutes, so practice fits in after school without taking over the evening. The questions cover Year 3 topics from the National Curriculum, and they are worded the way the tests word them.
Across the three printed books your child works through 10 reading tests, 12 maths tests and a run of grammar, punctuation and spelling tests. The maths tests split into arithmetic and reasoning, and the sample page shows three arithmetic questions with answer grids and a ten-minute timer. Every book has its own mark scheme and progress chart, so marking takes a couple of minutes.
Each book takes one part of the tests, which is why these three sit together for Year 3. Reading asks children to match words to their meanings and write short answers, while the SPaG tests have them circle capitals, tick punctuation and find adjectives. Maths covers number work and problems. Between them, every subject the tests examine gets a turn.
