New CurriculumWorkbook Packs

Description

Remember reading comprehension tests at school? Those evil tests that probed your understanding of a paragraph of text and punished you for lazily scanning for the answers? Well here’s something to banish those fears, something truly awesome.

Introducing the Exam Ninja Reading Booster Pack, five books that together provide perfect preparation for your child in either theie KS2 SATs Reading test or their 11+ English exam (or both!).

The pack is aimed at children aged between 7 and 11 (Years 3-6 inclusive) and as they progress through the books, the texts get steadily longer and more complicated.

The questions shift from simply demonstrating an understanding of the texts via fact retrieval to also asking about complex meanings and implied logic. Some texts are fiction, some are non-fiction and plenty are more unusual like a biography, diary entry or a piece of poetry.

The workbooks are easy to use and have dedicated answer and marking areas (just like the real tests). Altogether there are 72 texts, each with their respective questions on the opposite page.

The included teacher’s guide contains not just the answers but a complete review of the text as well as suggesting further speaking, listening and writing activities to assist your child's learning.

The Reading Booster Pack is one of our most popular items and it's the perfect tool to enable your child to master reading comprehension!

Each Reading Booster Pack (Ages 7-11) (Product Code EN9029) contains...
1xKS2 Reading Comprehension Book 1(Ninja Code: EN1313, RRP £3.50)

very good resource to teach Year 4 students

I bought this for my daughter who is in year five. She is finding reading comprehension a real challenge and I think the range of texts are suitable for her to make the necessary progress before the dreaded SATS next year. I guess that the books from 1-4 will progress in difficulty. I think application of general knowledge is a plus.

There is a wide range of texts, at different levels, which is ideal.
The children are enjoying working through the texts and questions.
I was a bit surprised that there is no recommendation/guidance as to how much time to allow.

I found these packs online whilst searching for material to help my son who is 10. We live in Spain and he attends a Spanish school and struggles with reading comprehension. We haven't yet made use of the books - they just arrived today - but they look ideal for our purposes. It will be wonderful to assess his ability against the UK level. I am most impressed with the packaging and accompanying letter too. All very well done. Thank you!

Am very impressed with this reading pack. It is short scripts that have very focussed questions which aid reading comprehension in short bursts. Have used it within one year group, mainly for small group intervention. One observations is that the subject matter of the texts is from high quality literature but can be quite challenging. I have used the book 1 scripts (year 3) with year 5 classes. However, as they become more confident I am using higher level texts which are related to the genre we are exploring at the time. I would recommend them and find the accompanying teacher booklet very useful too. My first purchase from yourselves and I am confident I will be buying more.

Who did you buy the KS2 Reading Comprehension Assault Pack for and why?
I'm a teacher and wanted some short, ability-differentiated comprehension texts to use with my class during guided reading activities. The texts are quite short and generally contain around 8 questions per text so likely to maintain children's interest and concentration levels. I particularly like the wide range of text types: fiction, information, poetry, diary entries, reports, letter extracts, older literature etc.
Has it benefited them?
Can't say yet as I won't be using them until September.
Would you recommend it?
Yes - the packs contain a wide range of text types and the questions will suite and challenge many abilities.

Who did you buy the KS2 Reading Comprehension Assault Pack for and why?
For my son, he's got an 11+ in september and he's not very good at comprehension. He tries to answer the questions by quoting the passage and gets a little muddled. He's also got his SATS next year.

Has it benefited them?
He's only done the first book so far but it's been very good. Loads of very detailed questions and answers. The teacher's guide is very good. It's helped him realise what the teachers are looking for and how to answer the questions!

Would you recommend it?
Yes, 100%. I initially thought £20 was a bit too much for it but when you get all the books you realise how valuable they are. For £20 it's very very good!!! Thank you Exam Ninja!!!

Really really good books. Loads of exercises in it and the teacher book it comes with is fantastic. To be honest I'm surprised my sons teachers aren't using it at his school.

Couldn't recommend it enough. For the amount that he will get out of it (and already has) its amazing value for money.

Bought it as a review to use in school for some Sen children giving 1:1

Nice clear text on non bright background. All texts are leveled which you can look up in teacher book. However, the levels are all mixed within each book which I assume is interest level for age/ ability. I would like to see a leveled book which would be much easier as there is no notation in student book to give level ie L2 in bottom corner.

Would recommend due to nice mix in genre but would like to see it resourced for a school not just tutors And Home schooling as it appears to be mostly used for. I think there is a real lack of assessment leveled text out there for school to use.

Who did you buy the KS2 Reading Comprehension Book 4 for and why? Bought for a Yr 5,6 class

Has it benefited them? Found the different level books allowed easy differentiation, However, some of the poetry text in book 4 was difficult for the children to access, and especially so for EAL children.

Tasks are nicely timed to allow completion and some extension work in a lesson

These books provide a continual and sequenced supply of comprehension pieces (that are also AFFORDABLE) to use in KS2 guided reading. The pieces are accessible to the children and provide a basis for them to complete quick tasks, that they can then unpick later as a group and share their knowledge. Done weekly, these are really helping my Y4 class understand what is being looked for in reading comprehension tests. The price of

Many children can bark at words, but need to develop a greater understanding of the texts. Reading is not just about word recognition. I bought books 1 - 4 to enable individual children to use them. The short texts in different genres are proving to be very helpful to develop individual's skills and relate to topics taught in schools.

I bought this book as I struggled to find many comprehension books that had long enough texts in them in comparison to optional sates papers. This book however has a good selection of different texts and at varying levels which is useful for differentiating. The only downside I feel is that similar to every other comprehension book I've looked at on this search, it does not give you a level for the score that the children get, so you really do have to look at each question and how they've answered it to enable you to give them a level, or just make up your own scoring system to relate to the levels. Good value for money though.

Most of the teaching ideas are what you'd plan anyway but makes text levelling and marking easier. Worth buying for that.

This book contains a varied selection of comprehension exercises, of an ideal length for a KS2 child to complete in about half an hour. However some questions we found a bit vague and were unsure about whether an answer would be sufficient. Although the price seems reasonable the answer book needs to be purchased separately.

Not really hard enough for years 5 or 6Questions need to be more challenging Maybe the next level would be better

() - Relates to KS2 Reading Comprehension Book 2

Comprehension books are a rarity. I thought this one looked excellent when I first flicked through it. It relies heavily on classic texts so I thought it would offer a challenge. However, most of the questions are far too easy for pupils preparing for the 11+. Some rely on general knowledge. Just what you don't want when you are encouraging pupils to read for meaning.
