Throughout Year 8, children will read a large variety of texts and the ongoing emphasis will be learning to extract information, meaning and motivation from an author's piece. This may take the form of a fictional story, a poem or a non-fiction autobiography. Children need to master the skills of planning and crafting their writing while demonstrating a broad vocabulary as well as good spelling and punctuation skills.
Maths is often taught in ability-matched sets and children will continue to gather skills in place value, calculations, rounding, factors, fractions and negative numbers.
As well as building numerical skills, children will also study the reflection, rotation and translation of 2D shapes in greater detail.
