Key Stage 2 Comprehension provides a collection of stimulating texts, together with questions that both build comprehension skills and widen vocabulary. Children are encouraged to pay close attention to literal meaning, make inferences and deductions, observe how writing is structured and identify literary devices. Book 2 is for children whose reading skills are fluent and accurate and includes:
  • excellent examples of broadsheet journalism and an instructional text 'How to make a wormery'
  • extracts from classic fiction, including 'Treasure Island' and 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'
  • a playscript adapted from a Sherlock Holmes detective story
  • thought-provoking poetry from Charles Causley, Walter de la Mare, Valerie Bloom and Edward Thomas

This book is brilliant as you are able to use in year groups or for differentiation within one year group. My children have really been challenged by the questions so although there are only a few it makes them think.

Ordered 4pm and item arrived next day. The item was perfect for the purpose it is to be used for. Highly recommended.

This book is really great for teachers to use with any age group. I have been able to use it with different abilities in year 6 and the children have been challenged in different ways. Great resource, I have the whole set now.

Another great practice book and great value against gives children a great idea of what the tests are like and helps to build the confidence

I am always looking around for good ideas and resources to help me with teaching my secondary English class and have found this very useful.

These are good books. I've had these before and are really useful. Good experience for children to get used to doing comprehensions.

After Finish book 1 we can start this book. because the book 1 is basic for it. good practice for children in Year 4

Extremely useful book Have used it loads for tutoring children Price was reasonable as well. Would recommend it to teachers

This book contains a varied selection of comprehension exercises, of an ideal length for a KS2 child to complete in about half an hour. However some questions we found a bit vague and were unsure about whether an answer would be sufficient. Although the price seems reasonable the answer book needs to be purchased separately.

Comprehension books are a rarity. I thought this one looked excellent when I first flicked through it. It relies heavily on classic texts so I thought it would offer a challenge. However, most of the questions are far too easy for pupils preparing for the 11+. Some rely on general knowledge. Just what you don't want when you are encouraging pupils to read for meaning.
