During Year 5, children read longer texts including well-known texts, poetry and diary entries as well as more stories from different cultures and historical texts. They also deepen their vocabulary and punctuation skills within their writing.
In maths, children develop their place value skills by learning to read, write, order and compare numbers up to 6-digits in length. Children also learn column addition and subtraction as well as prime numbers, long division, short division, square numbers and cube numbers.
As well as these new calculation topics, children deepen their knowledge and arithmetic skills with fractions, decimals and percentages.
